These Creeds guide and focus our own efforts to tell of God's mercy, enacted in Jesus as the hope and life of the world. The people of God are called to worship the Trinity in unity and the unity in Trinity. Our worship and our work does not focus on us but rather on God who is present for us and with us through His Word and Sacraments. We publically confess what we believe about God in the three ecumenical creeds.
These universal creeds help us maintain a vertical relationship with past generations of Christians. What we believe and teach today, is the very same message that was believed and taught a hundred years ago. This is when many of our Iowa District West congregation we just getting started. There is a peace that comes from this kind of stability. When the world all around us seems to be changing every day, we as the people of God treasure the changelessness of God.
The Creeds also point to a horizontal relationship between Christians today. Christians are connected to one another. There is one Holy Christian Apostolic Church for which Jesus died. For this reason these creeds are often referred to as the three ecumenical Creeds. They have never been the private possession of any one set or group of believers but to all Christians. We confess what God’s Word teaches—nothing more, and nothing less.
Based on our Core Values and the supportive relationship we have with all of you, we believe that Iowa District West is:
