About Main Street Living

Main Street Living is a liturgical worship service, broadcast Sunday mornings on 10 television stations in 8 states. The program is broadcast Sunday mornings at 10:00 am on KCAU (ABC) stations, and financially supported by the viewers and congregations of the viewing area.

The first portion of the program is remastered episodes of Lutheran hour ministries, This is the Life, a retro TV series that aired from the 1950s to the 1980s.


The Mission of Main Street Living

  • Main Street Living is here to provide liturgical service to those who are unable to attend a local congregation. 
  • We strive to be a ministry that aids and complements the work of pastors and their congregations, and encourage those who are able, to attend a local worship service.
  • Six regional services are broadcast on local television stations and available online to those who are unable to attend in-person worship

January 25, 2026  

This Is the Life - “Missing Ingredient” - Bob (Jack Nicholson) and his fiancée Lynn (Susan Crane) are planning their wedding when she overhears her parents planning to separate shortly after.  

Worship Service - Rev. Alex Kaldahl, pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, IA, delivers the message titled “Light in the Darkness” based on Matthew 4:12-25. February 1 airing

This is the Life – “Visitation” – Pastor Andrew Burdick (Dick Sargent) is having problems keeping his congregation together.  Bishop Smith (Parley Baer) visits him to identify some troubling leadership spots and to renew faith.

This is the Life – “Happy Dirty Hands” – School teacher Kent (Daniel Travanti) and his wife (Anne Whitfield) live in an impoverished area causing trouble in their marriage.

Worship Service – Rev. February 15 airing

This is the Life – “Destination Unknown” – Paul Werner (Leonard Nimoy) is a nuclear scientist who plans to defect to the Soviet Union.  He reconsiders after a conversation on an airplane.

This is the Life – “Cell of Hope” – Flag Washington (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs), who came to Christ while in prison gets a new cellmate Jimmy Stricklin (Richard Dinitri) who is obnoxious.
